To procrastinate is to put off today what you think you will do tomorrow. Many times it works but when it doesn’t, there is almost always a consequence.
A week ago I visited a dermatologist for the first time ever, to secure an ointment for a rash/fungus on my feet that had gotten ugly and considering I exclusively wear Teva sandals, I thought it best for appearance sake to get it taken care of. While I was in the dermatologist’s office, she asked me “what about these spots” on your hands, arms, neck, forehead, and that ugly one in the middle of your back? Never far from all out denial, I replied they must be age spots and should be expected of one that has spent a lifetime in the outdoors. Wrong answer! When the smoke cleared, (actually liquefied nitrogen) I looked substantially worse for wear! To add insult to my injuries, she took a couple of ‘samples’ of skin tissue on two areas’s suspiciously discolored and sent them in for microscopic examination and would you believe, they came back positive (that’s positively cancer!). This morning she began the removal of stitches (I told her she could have made a quilt with the same amount of thread!), with the remainder of the stitches to be removed next Monday. My point is this: don’t procrastinate! If you have any of the ABCD’s – Asymmetetry (a spot with one half unlike the other); Border (irregular, scalloped or poorly defined border); Color (varied from one area to another); and Diameter (larger than a pencil eraser) – go see a dermatologist! The numbers of people with skin cancer’s are staggering and the consequence of ignoring them appalling! I was under the impression most of the damage occurs when you are young, which is true, however precautions can be taken in preventing further damage to skin that is worse for wear from aging. I watch my friend and fishing guide Chuck Naiser as he pulls on his ‘ski mask’ when the sun gets to a certain height, usually around
This is my sloooooow time of year. Once the first dove is harvested heralding the arrival of another hunting season, fishing season seems as though it gets moved to the back burner. That is unfortunate as in salt water, our pastures become productive with fish schooling up and easier to locate, and those we catch more likely to be larger as they have made it for another year of growth. It is also the time of year that I ‘special’ a few items and am in a ‘negotiable’ mood when it comes to rod/reel combos. Call or email me if you have questions or needs, or best – come by for a visit.
I have a trip scheduled with ‘Team Navy’ this coming Monday with 4 guys and will be keeping an eye out for the newest of the hurricanes which at this point, appears it could make it into the Gulf. Joe Mitchell was in this morning telling me of a Red Fish he hooked this past weekend and couldn’t stop with his 7 weight. He had just landed a nice 26 incher without any trouble when the ‘bruiser’ hit his clouser stripping off 50 yards of backing without turning, breaking the leader off on a crab pot. He thought it was in the 40” category! It is that time of year. . . . . . . . .!
Thanks and remember a little prevention when in the mid day sun!
