The news recently of hurricane Katrina, the slow progress on the war in Iraq, the high price of gasoline, the late summer heat wave we are experiencing, have contributed in part to a slow down of my business which does occur with some regularity once school is open and hunting season begins, and generally, in a word, is depressing.  In an effort to make ‘lemonade’ from the lemons being dished out recently I have been building a fair amount of new custom rods and find my for sale custom rod rack filled with Fly, Spinning, and Casting rods that in my humble opinion, are not only beautiful but are built with superior quality components and are functionally perfect!  Most of these rods are priced below comparable factory built rods and carry the same lifetime warranties as factory built rods with superior hardware and ‘built on the blank’ handles/grips.  I don’t ordinarily use this medium for commercial purposes but would appreciate it if you would take a look at the ones I describe at the bottom of this newsletter keeping in mind any special occasions and perhaps potential Christmas gifts.  No charge for inscriptions on my rods!

Last Sunday I sat in Capt. Chuck Naiser’s beautiful new home in Holiday Beach north of Rockport watching thunderstorm after thunderstorm pass by with my son Ryan.  I expected to fish Sunday and Monday but was washed out.  Mike Smith and a friend of his fished with Scott Graham out of Port O’Connor connecting with a couple of huge Tarpon one of which estimated at 150 pounds breaking Mike’s 12 weight fly line!  To say Mike was upset would be an understatement!  Herb and Rick Gracy connected on numerous Red’s on fly Monday and Tuesday out of Port O’Connor.  Bert Neville and John Pilmer got into some very large Red’s near Port O’Connor and saw a couple they said were 30 plus pounds while dodging lightning bolts.  My son Ryan fished with Capt. Ron (www.ronand.com) on a 16 hour offshore trip to the east breaks – they filled a 150 quart ice chest with fillets of Tuna, Wahoo, Kingfish, Dolphin (fish), Snapper’s, Ling, Bonita – one of the best trips he has ever been on but 16 hours in the hot sun is very physically demanding!  Everyone from GRTU is getting excited and anxious for the Trout season to get into full swing – many people are saying there was a good holdover from last year and the first new trout shipments will arrive around mid October.

Those of us going to Costa De Cocos (www.costadecocos) in the lower Yucatan next month are getting cranked and geared up!  Keep in mind, I will be gone and the shop will be closed October 15th (Saturday) through October 25th so if you are in need of anything I have or you need a rod repaired, do so before October 15th.

Presently I have the following custom built rods for sale and in an effort to move some of them enabling me to keep my landlord happy, I am offering the spinning and bait casting rods at $40.00 discount and on fly rods I will include a premium Royal Wulff Fly line and backing at no charge, ($70 value) or will discount $40.00 from the regular price.  This special pricing is from Saturday September 17th through Friday October 14th only.
